Dr. Rob Elias is the Director of the BioComposites Centre at Bangor University with a staff of 26 scientists. The Centre was established in 1989 to work with companies to develop new technologies based on sustainable materials such as wood. The Centre has state of the art facilities including pilot scale equipment that enables companies to demonstrate their ideas by developing prototype materials.
Rob has a major interest in the development of bio-derived materials that reduce global warming potential. He has an industrial and academic background in natural fibre production. His expertise includes wood based panel production, biomass extraction/ chemical composition and product development.
His current research interests include biorefining, the production of bioplastic products, extraction of value added molecules from plant materials, utilisation of wastes and agricultural co-products for construction applications.

Dr. Rob Elias is de directeur van het BioComposites Center aan de Universiteit van Bangor met een staf van 26 wetenschappers. Het centrum is in 1989 opgericht om samen met bedrijven nieuwe technologieën te ontwikkelen op basis van duurzame materialen zoals hout. Het centrum beschikt over ultramoderne faciliteiten, waaronder apparatuur op pilotschaal waarmee bedrijven hun ideeën kunnen demonstreren door prototypematerialen te ontwikkelen.
Rob is nauw betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van bio-afgeleide materialen die het broeikaseffect verminderen. Hij heeft een industriële en academische achtergrond in de productie van natuurlijke vezels. Zijn expertise omvat paneelproductie op houtbasis, extractie van biomassa / chemische samenstelling en productontwikkeling.
Zijn huidige onderzoeksinteresses omvatten bioraffinage, de productie van bioplastische producten, extractie van moleculen met toegevoegde waarde uit plantaardige materialen, gebruik van afval en agrarische co-producten voor bouwtoepassingen.
